Dornbirn with a population in 2008 of around 45.000, is the largest city in Vorarlberg.
Its history dates back to the Copper Age to around 3000 BC with signs of an early settlement in the district of the “Hatlerdorf” around the 6th – 7th century.
The town was owned by the dukes of Ems since 1654, however in 1771 it was bought back by the people and in 1791 became a municipality.
